John J. McDevitt, 83, of Swan Road, Smithfield died Saturday, February 28, 2015 in Hebert’s Nursing Home, Smithfield. He was the beloved husband of Martha A. (Jaswell) McDevitt. They were married for 64 years.
Born in Pawtucket, he was a son of the late James J. and Veronica (Rehill) McDevitt. He lived in Smithfield for 40 years previously living in Pawtucket.
Mr. McDevitt was a foreman for the Pawtucket Housing Authority for 24 years retiring in 1991. He was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus Feeney Council and a member of the Smithfield Elks #2359.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his sons, John J. McDevitt, Jr. and his wife Linda of Scituate, Daniel P. McDevitt and his wife, Leslie of Smithfield and Kenneth J. McDevitt and his wife Linda of Johnston.; seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; a brother, Joseph McDevitt of North Providence and a sister, Gracie Auriemmia of West Warwick. He was the father of the late Michael T. McDevitt and brother of the late James, Dolores Vinacco and Cathy Brown.
His funeral will be held Friday at 8:30am from the ANDERSON-WINFIELD Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30am in St. Philip Church, 622 Putnam Pike, Smithfield. Burial will in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Cranston. Visitation Thursday 4-7PM.
