Obituary

LEICESTER: Russell D. Miller, 86, died Saturday, Feb. 21 in UMASS Memorial Medical Center in Worcester after a fall in his home earlier in the week.
He leaves his wife of 63 years, Barbara S. (Schunmann) Miller, his son David F. Miller and his wife Joanne of Cherry Valley, and his daughter Linda M. Andersen and her husband Carl of Concord, his grandson Peter Russell Andersen of Boston, several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a brother William F. Miller.
Russell was a telephone installer for Verizon formerly New England Telephone Co. in Worcester for 36 years, retiring in 1989.
He was born in Worcester, the son of William and Annabelle (Smith) Miller and later graduated from South High in Worcester. He served his country with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. An avid fisherman, Russell was a lifetime member of the Leicester Rod & Gun Club. He enjoyed building and flying radio controlled model airplanes, and was a member of the Central MA Radio Control Modelers, Crow Island RC Flyers, and Rocky Hill RC. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. He was a Past Master of the Athleston Lodge A.F. & A.M. and Past Master Councilor of the DeMolay both in Worcester.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, Feb. 27 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 1131 Main St., Leicester. Private graveside services in Pine Grove Cemetery, Leicester will be held in the Spring.
