Obituary

LOWELL—I. Marjorie (Tilton) Pendergast, 98 years old, died in Florida, Sunday December 19th. She was the wife of the late James H. Pendergast, who died in 1982.

She was born in North Andover, on November 2, 1906, a daughter of the late Harold and Florence (Leigh) Tilton, and was a graduate of the Lowell Public School System.

Mrs. Pendergast had been employed as a Cashier at the Benner House at Phillips Academy, in Andover, until her retirement. She was a communicant of St. Margaret’s Church.

Surviving her are three sons and two daughters-in-law: Robert D. Pendergast, of Pelham, NH; David L. and Judith Pendergast, of Maine and Fort Myers, FL; and Richard and Doris Pendergast, of Meridith, NH and Venice, FL; two daughters: Eleanor Levavasseur, of Marblehead and Venice, FL; and Florence Maybury, of Lowell and Venice, FL; a daughter-in-law: Joanne Pendergast, of Billerica; a sister: Eleanor Mayo, of Worcester; 28 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren; also many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was the mother of the late James G. Pendergast, who died in 2001.


A Memorial Mass will be offered Saturday, January 8th, at 9:30 AM at St. Margaret’s Church, , Lowell, to which relatives and friends are invited. Donations in her memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association; 330 Congress Street; Boston, MA 02210.
