Geraldine H. Mitchell, 78, of Allenstown, formerly of Derry, died Wednesday, February 18, 2015, surrounded by her loving family at the Hanover Hill Healthcare Center of Manchester. She was born June 4, 1936 in Boston, MA and was a daughter of the late Josiah R. and Annie Mary (Mitchell) Dyer. She was raised and educated in Dorchester, MA and lived there prior to relocating to Derry, NH in 1965, where she resided for 30 years. She wintered in Beverly Hills, Fl. and camped summers in NH for over 15 years.
Geraldine was a devoted mother and homemaker who loved camping, enjoyed Oil painting, clog dancing, flea markets, yard sales and playing the organ. She was also an active member of the Red Hats organization. She ran a daycare for other children, but will forever be remembered for the loving care she provided for her 13 grandchildren. She was previously a communicant of St. Thomas Aquinas Church of Derry, NH. and St. John the Baptist Church of Allenstown, NH.
Members of the family include her beloved husband of 60 years, Donald E. Mitchell, Sr., of Allenstown, NH, five sons, Donald E., Jr. and Deborah Mitchell, of Pelham, NH, John and Sharon Mitchell of Port Charlotte, FL., Thomas E. Mitchell of Laconia, NH, Joseph and Jean Mitchell of Manchester, NH and James Mitchell of Dover, one daughter, Theresa Mitchell, of Hawaii, daughter in-law Kim Mitchell of Hampton. 13 grandchildren, John Corey, Sarah, Ashley, Kelley, Hayden, Sean, Benjamin, Abby, Ryan, Donald, Rebecca, Andrea and Katherine, three great grandsons, CJ, Jace and Jaxon. Her sisters Mary Bernsten of Derry, Frances Burke, of Malden, MA, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her brothers, Richard, Walter, Philip and Edmund Dyer and by her sister, Anna Wanders.
Geraldine’s family offers it’s gratitude and special thanks to the staff at Catholic Medical Center and Hanover Hill Healthcare Center for its care during her illness.
Calling hours were held Friday, February 20, 2015 from 5 to 8 pm at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch Street, Derry, NH. A liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday the 21st at 10 am at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 26 Crystal in Derry, with cremation to follow.
