Maria C. (Andrade) Barbosa, 73, of New Bedford died Monday January 3, 2005 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Joao B. Barbosa, who died September 21, 2003. They had been married for 53 years.
Born in Brava, Cape Verde, the daughter of the late Thomas and Arminda (Oliveira) Andrade, she had lived in New Bedford since 1967.
She was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church.
Mrs. Barbosa was formerly employed as a floor lady at Kay Windsor Manufacturing until her retirement.
She enjoyed spending time with her family.
Survivors include two daughters, Erlice Macedo-Rodrigues of Brazil and Helia Macedo-Fields of Marion; two brothers, Alcides Andrade of New Bedford and Jose Andrade of Brazil; seven sisters, Margarida Macedo, Cizela Goncalves, Beatriz Castro, and Luiza Sarmento, all of New Bedford, Bella Valles of Florida, Clarice Rodrigues of Cape Verde, and Rosa Lomba of Boston; her godchildren, Jose Joaquim Andrade and Belita Brito; and many nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Joao deDeus Andrade, Joao deJesus Andrade, and Irisalva Rodrigues.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Friday January 7, 2005 at 9 AM. Funeral Mass at St. John the Baptist Church at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Thursday January 6, 2005 from 5-9 PM. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
