WORCESTER-John C. Baltas, 80, of 638 Pleasant Street, died Monday, January 3rd in UMass-Memorial Hospital. He leaves his wife of 50 years, Olga (Nichols) Baltas, a son, Christo J. and his wife Carolyn Baltas of Worcester, 4 daughters, Elaine Baltas and Maria Sahas both of Worcester, Susan wife of Marco Palamaris of Taunton and Alexandra wife of Thomas Odorski of Boylston, a sister, Eleni Pantazios of Athens, Greece, 10 grandchildren, nephews and nieces. A brother Angelo Baltas, a sister Maria Kaltsas and a son-in-law Michael Sahas predeceased him.
He was born in Athens, Greece the son of Christo and Evthoxia (Tsivitis) Baltas and came to Worcester in 1955. Mr. Baltas served in the Greek Army as a police officer during the Greek Civil War. After moving to Worcester he worked for 13 years at GE Telecrom, and later owned and operated many pizza restaurant businesses. He was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and will be loved and missed forever.
The funeral is Thursday, January 6th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a service at Noon in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday, January 5th from 5:00 until 8:00 PM in the funeral home.
