Obituary

Norman Livsey, 76, of New Bedford died April 3, 2002 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness.

He was the husband of Jane M. (Langis) Livsey, and son of the late John and Hannah (Cobbe) Livsey.

Mr. Livsey was born in New Bedford and had lived in New Bedford for all of his life. He was a communicant of St. James Church.

He was formerly employed as a letter carrier for many years with the Post Office in New Bedford until his retirement.

Mr. Livsey served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict, and was a recipient of the American Theater medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater medal, the Occupation of Japan medal, the Good Conduct medal, the World War II Victory medal and the National Defense Service medal. He participated in the invasion of Normandy aboard an LST.

He was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers, American Legion Post One, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 15222 in Boston, a life member of the Disabled American Veterans Dr. Burt Chapter, a life member of the U.S. Naval Institute in Annapolis, Maryland, and a plank owner of the U.S. Navy Memorial in Washington, DC.

Survivors include his wife; a cousin, Marian Shard of Dartmouth; 5 nieces and 5 nephews, including Louise Baptiste and Melissa J. Avila, both of New Bedford; a nephew and godson, Paul Langis of New Bedford; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New BedfordFriday, April 5th at 9 AM. Funeral Mass at St. James Church at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

Visiting hours Thursday, April 4th from 5-8 PM.

Interment Rural Cemetery.
