New Bedford – Lidwina Sousa, age 85, passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2015 at New Bedford Health Care Center. She was the widow of Arthur N. Sousa and the daughter of Maria de Estrella (Silva) and Francisco M. De Frias. She was born in St, Michael, Azores and, after moving to this country, worked in Housekeeping at Friends Academy for 20 years and St. Luke’s Hospital for 10 years.
Her surviving family includes 3 children: Lidwina M. Paiva of Naples, Fla, Linda M. Ashley of East Freetown and Arthur N. Sousa, Jr. of Texas; 2 siblings: Jorgena F. DaSilva and Jose De Frias, both of New Bedford; as well as 8 grandchildren and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Sousa was predeceased by her siblings: Maria deLourdes Medeiros, Eugenia D. DaSilva, Conceicao F. Rebello and Antonio De Frias.
Her funeral will be Friday beginning in the funeral home at 9:30 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours will take place in the funeral home on Thursday evening from 4-7 P.M.
