Robert A. Cassidy, age 88, of Woburn passed away peacefully, February 13, 2015, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Maureen (Allen) Cassidy and together they shared 65 years of marriage. Born in Donegal, Ireland he was one of six children of the late Andrew and Charlotte (Baskin) Cassidy.
Robert came to the United States in 1950 and settled in Woburn where he has been a resident ever since. He worked for over twenty years as a power plant engineer at MIT prior to his retirement. He also worked part time for the Donahue family for forty-five years. Robert loved the outdoors, working in his yard taking in the warm sunshine. He also enjoyed reading and took great comfort in his strong faith. His greatest joy was his family. He was a dedicated and hard worker so his family could be provided for. He cherished his time with his family and especially enjoyed his role as a grandfather and great grandfather. He will be deeply missed.
In addition to his beloved wife, He is survived by his devoted children; Freda Rigby and her husband Dave of Melbourne, FL, Karen Ranieri and her husband Dennis of Woburn, David Cassidy of Melbourne, FL, Gary Cassidy and his wife Betty Anne of Woburn. He was the loving grandfather of Derek, Jason, Ashley, Victoria, Vanessa, Brittany, Marc, Erica, Taylor and Sydney. Loving great grandfather of Cody, Kason, Emma, Dareh, Brandt, Fiona, Jack, Jonah, Connor and Logan. Brother of Elsie McCrea of Ireland, the late May Deane, William, Andrew and Samuel Cassidy.
Funeral services will be held from the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St. Woburn, Thursday, February 19th, at 10 a.m. followed by a funeral service at the Church of the Open Bible, 3 Winn St., BURLINGTON, at 11 am. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 4 thru 8 p.m. Services will conclude with burial at Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.
