Dr. Charles F. McCarthy, Of Medford, died February 6, at the age of 82. Devoted son of the late Mary Ellen (McElhinney) and John F. McCarthy. Beloved brother of Mary Patricia Doyle of Arlington and Joan M. Roshier of Ashland. Dr. McCarthy will also be missed by his nieces Kerry Doyle, Kathleen Doyle, Maureen Doyle, Jamie Doyle, Michelle Roshier and Andrea Roshier, as well as his six great nieces and nephews. Dr. McCarthy served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1951-1954. He was an esteemed professor in the Education department at the University of Massachusetts, Boston for decades. Over his tenure, Dr. McCarthy developed and directed two graduate degree programs in Education Administration at the University’s Institute for Learning and Teaching and retired in 1994. Well-read and widely traveled, Dr. McCarthy was an avid outdoorsman who also enjoyed his weekly woodworking time with his friend Matt Mello and collecting all kinds of antiques. A private burial will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
