M. Estelle “Stella” (Merrifield) Rivard of Needham, formerly of Chatham died on Wednesday December 29th at the Stanley R. Tippett House in Needham. She was 82 years old. Born in Cambridge, Mrs. Rivard grew up in Boston and California. She was a graduate of Lowell State College, where she received her teaching degree. Mrs. Rivard taught first and second grade in Littleton MA for 5 years. Mrs. Rivard was a resident of Chelmsford for 30 years before moving to Chatham, where she lived for 15 years. She most recently had resided at Brighton Gardens. Both she and her late husband Dr. Thomas L. Rivard were very active in the store at the Episcopal Church in Chatham.
The wife of the late Dr. Thomas L. Rivard, she was the mother of the late Rev. Donald Rivard who died in 2000. She was the beloved sister of Evelyn M. and her husband Andy Brown of Needham and the late Patricia Ronane. The dear aunt of Stephen A. and his wife Paula Brown of Waltham, Jeanne and her husband Craig Rafter of Dover, Susan E. Brown of Millis, Margaret Ann and her husband Dean Swift of Sarasota FL, Michael Rivard of CA and Wendy Rivard of South Carolina. Funeral Services will be held a the First Baptist Church 858 Great Plain Avenue Needham on Monday January 3rd at 11:00 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Asian relief of your choice.
