East Longmeadow – Lorraine L. (Asselin) Marchand, age 91, passed away on Feb. 11, 2015 at the East Longmeadow Skilled Nursing Home. She was born on Aug. 30, 1923 in Springfield. She was a daughter of the late Arthur and Matilda (Boleuc) Asselin. Lorraine was a former communicant of Assumption Parish and a communicant of St Rose de Lima. She was a member of the former Ladies of St Ann and was also involved with Bingo nights at Assumption Church. She was also an avid Boston sports fan. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Jean-Louis P. Marchand who passed away in 2005, her two sons, Richard Marchand, who passed away in 2013 and Gerard Marchand, who passed away in 2008 and also by one grandson, Jonathan Marchand who passed away in 2013. She leaves two daughters, Suzanne Yong and her husband Alexander of Springfield and Jeanne Simard and her husband Robert of Ludlow; seven grandchildren, Kenneth, Kristine, Timothy, Nicole, Justin, Andrew and Stephanie; eight great grandchildren, Paige, Gabriel, Alivia, Emalie, Noah, Sophie, Bailey and Clayton. She also leaves her son Richard’s close companion, Carol Zimmerman of Chicopee along with many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by three sisters, Lillian Charron, Jeannette Campbell and Irene Valego and also one brother, Arthur Asselin. In addition, Lorraine’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the loving care provided by the staff of East Longmeadow Skilled Nursing Home. Calling hours will be held on Mon., Feb. 16, 2015 from 4:00-7:00 p.m., at the Grise Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee. Funeral service will be held on Tues., Feb. 17th at 10 a.m. from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Liturgy in St Rose de Lima Church at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in St Rose de Lima Cemetery.
