Obituary

GLOUCESTER: Kathy J. (Bennett) Brown, 61, died early Friday morning, February 6, 2015, at the Merrimac Valley Hospice House following a long battle with cancer.
Born in Gloucester on October 22, 1953, she was the daughter of the late Ernest A. Bennett and Barbara E. (Gross) Bennett Dyment. She was a graduate of the Gloucester High School class of 1971. Kathy then went on to graduate suma cum laude from Salem State College in 1999, receiving her Bachelor’s degree in Art with a minor in European History.
She was a trained para-legal and was employed as an administrative assistant for many years at the law office of Pierce, Pierce, and Napolitano in Salem.
Kathy was a talented artist in many mediums, including sculpture, oil and water based paints. She was a licensed esthetician, massage therapist and Reiki master. An avid traveler, she loved Europe and the islands.
She is survived by her two sons, Colby Brown and Joseph Brown, companion of Alisha Real; the love of her life, Kevin Fillion and his children, Ethan and Katie; her husband, James F. Brown; two sisters, Jacqueline Bennett and Susan Bennett; sister-in-law, Patsy Bouchie; two nieces, Kim Bouchie and Stacie (Bouchie) Casas and three nephews, Rory Kain, Brady Kain, companion of Samantha Rose and Mike Bouchie. She was also predeceased by her stepfather, Roland Dyment.
A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, February 26th, at the Elks at Bass Rocks, 97-101 Atlantic Road, Gloucester from 6 – 10 p.m. There are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the Merrimack Valley Hospice House, 360 North Avenue, Haverhill, MA 01830 or to the Cape Ann Animal Aid, 4 Paws Lane, Gloucester.
