POSTPONEMENT of Calling Hours and Funeral Mass
Katherine “Kay” Marie (McCue) Smith, 87, of Franklin died February 8 in Milford Regional Medical Center with family at her side. She was the wife of the late Arthur F. Smith who died in 1997.
Born in Boston, April 23, 1927, a daughter of the late John E. and Helen G. (Riley) McCue, she was a Franklin resident since 1962, and was a former resident of Milton. Kay was raised and educated in the Roxbury section of Boston.
A homemaker, Kay was a member of St. Mary Catholic Women’s Club, the Alden Club and the Garden Club. She had been a Girl Scout and Cub Scout Leader, a Girl Scout Day Camp Leader and Coordinator of the Cookie Drive.
She treasured time with her family. Kay was very talented and enjoyed crocheting, macramé, crafts, plants and gardening. She was a devoted wife, mother, Nana, aunt and friend. She volunteered at the Franklin Senior Center and the Franklin Public Library.
She is survived by her daughter, Doris Madden of Franklin and her son, Paul Smith of Bellingham. She was the loving grandmother of Annie Katherine (Smith) and her husband Robert Coutinho, Christina and Caroline Smith, Amanda (Madden) and her husband Dave Fitzgerald, Ashleigh, Jared and Allison Madden. Also her great-grandchildren, Landon and Brody Coutinho, Bradley, Vanessa and Megan Fitzgerald. She also leaves many nieces and nephews, and a dear friend of sixty years, Doris McCree. She was the sister of the late Helen McNally, and Paul and Joseph McCue.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral on Friday, February 20 from the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin, 131 Main Street, Franklin (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) at 11:15, followed by a funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church at noon.
Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Calling hours will be on Thursday, February 19 from 4 to 8 p.m.
