Oscar A. Helie, 82, of Salem, NH, died Wednesday, December 29, 2004 in the Caritas-Holy Family Hospital in Methuen, MA following a lengthy illness. Mr. Helie was born in Manchester, NH on March 28, 1922, a son of the late Arthur and Claudia (Lacombe) Helie. He was a resident of Salem for the last six and a half years, formerly living in Londonderry, NH. During WWII Mr. Helie served with the United States Army as a medical aidman with the 24th Medical Battalion, Company B serving in New Guinea and the Southern Philippines. During that time he earned two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. He worked for 38 years as a sheet metal worker doing metal layout and fabrication. He was a member of New Hampshire Sheet Metal Workers Local #297 (Branch 13) in Manchester. Upon his retirement in 1984 he enjoyed traveling with his wife. He also enjoyed outdoor activities, hunting and fishing. Mr. Helie was also a communicant of St. Jude Parish, Londonderry.
He is survived by two sons, Robert A. Helie, of CA and Randy E. Helie of Londonderry, three daughters, Shirley A. Bouchard of Pembroke, NH, Claudette M. Goudreau of Manchester, and Susan E. Lord of Londonderry, seven grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Nancy Ann (Hatch) Helie in 1997.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 3rd at 10:00am in the St. Jude Parish, 435 Mammoth Rd. Londonderry. The burial will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Londonderry in the spring. Friends may call on Sunday from 3 - 6pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry. In lieu of flowers memorials in Mr. Helie's name may be made to the American Diabetes Assoc., NH Affiliate, PO Box 31160, Hartford, CT 06150-1160.
