Obituary

OXFORD/CHARLTON - Ruth E. (Cheney) Stockman, 98, passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2015 at Overlook Masonic Health Center. She was born in Auburn on September 2, 1916 to the late Clarence and Pearl (Johnson) Cheney. Her husband of 50 years, Edward H. Stockman, passed away in 1992.
Ruth graduated from Charlton High School and the Becker School (now Becker College). She lived in Oxford for over 60 years. She was a homemaker for many years and worked for the A.O., Southbridge, JW Bishop Co., Worcester, and as Office Manager at the Philip W Joslin Insurance Agency, Oxford. She retired in 1979.
She is survived by a son, Gordon E. Stockman and his wife, Barbara, of Littleton, NH, a daughter, Betty P. French and her husband, Larry, of Sutton, MA, four grandchildren, Laura Shumaker and her husband, Timothy, of Mason, NH, Jeff Stockman of Nashua, NH, Janet Aranda and her husband, Michael, of Hudson, NH, and Timothy Stockman of Nashua, NH, and four great-grandchildren, Cameron, Nicolas, Samantha and Rylie. She also leaves two sisters, Dorothy M. Lund and Eleanor B. Donly, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 4 brothers and 2 sisters.
Ruth was a Past Worthy Matron of Clara Barton Chapter #63, Order of the Eastern Star, Oxford, and a member for over 50 years, as well as an active member of Oxford United Methodist Church, its Women’s Group and the Oxford Senior Center. She enjoyed baking, Scrabble, crossword puzzles, a wide variety of crafts, her family and her many friends.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2015 from 5 to 8 PM at the ROBERT J. MILLER-OXFORD FUNERAL HOME, 247 Main St, Oxford, MA. Clara Barton Chapter #63 Order Of The Eastern Star will conduct a service at 7:30 PM in the funeral home. Funeral Service will be on Friday, February 13, 2015 at 10 am at Oxford United Methodist Church, 465 Main St, Oxford, MA 01540. Burial will follow in West Ridge Cemetery, Charlton. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to Oxford United Methodist Church or the Overlook Masonic Health Center Activity Fund, P.O. Box 1000, Charlton, MA 01507-1000.
