Obituary

Ralph P. Basler, age 90, of Brockton, died February 5, 2015 at Signature Healthcare-Brockton Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband for 67 years of Alice M. (Kane) Basler and was the son of the late George and Hazel (Woodworth) Basler. Born in Pembroke, he was raised and educated in the Bryantville section, and had been a resident of Brockton for the past 62 years. Ralph was an Army Veteran who served with the Infantry during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart. For over 20 years he had been employed by the City of Brockton’s Water Department and previously had been a driver for various transportation companies. Ralph spent many summers camping with his family at Myles Standish; he enjoyed card games and dominos and was an avid jazz fan. Following his retirement he wintered in West Palm Beach, FL.
In addition to his wife Alice, he is survived by his children Lynne Washburn and her husband Mike of Brockton, John “Jack” Basler and his fiancé Cindi MacLean of Bridgewater, Karen Hurley and her husband Paul of Plymouth and Robyn Nichols and her husband Chet of Whitman; eight grandchildren Krysten and Benito, Michael and Kerri, Katie, Kelley, Conor, Brendan, Justin and Jack; two great grandchildren Aryana and Kiley; and many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Ralph Basler, Jr. and brother of the late Roy and Robert Basler and Ruth Cook.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, Tuesday 4-8pm. The funeral procession will gather Wednesday at 9:30am for a Funeral Mass in Christ the King Parish at 10:30am. Burial in Melrose Cemetery.
