William Stark Brady, 87, of Dartmouth died Thursday February 5, 2015. He was the husband of Claire Horan Brady; they had been married for 56 years.
Born in Providence, RI, the son of the late Edwin C. and Margaret (Stark) Brady, he lived in Dartmouth for most of his life.
He was a parishioner of St. Mary's Church in South Dartmouth.
Mr. Brady was employed by Coater's Inc., in New Bedford for 40 years, during which he served in many capacities eventually becoming President. In his retirement he worked at Gane Brothers and Lane, Fish Chemical and Equipment, the Pope's Island Marina, the Seaport Marina, and Boat/US.
He was an alumnus of St. John's Preparatory High School and attended Brown University. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy in the Philippines.
He was a Past President of the New Bedford Kiwanis Club and member of the New Bedford Yacht Club and the Wamsutta Club. For many years, he enjoyed boating and flying as a private pilot.
He is survived by his wife Claire; four sons, William S. Brady, Jr. and his wife Susan, and their children, Alan, Meghan, George, and Katherine, Matthew H. Brady and his wife Debra, Daniel O'L. Brady and his wife Melissa, and their son Evan, and Andrew W. Brady and his wife Mary Ann, and their children, Caroline and Owen; and his siblings, Gwen Brady Stanley and Robert E. Brady and his wife Doris.
He was predeceased by his son, Andrew C. Brady.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday February 9, 2015 at 11 AM at St. Mary's Church, South Dartmouth. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday morning from 9-10:30 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, prior to the Mass.
