Herman “Carroll” Mixon, Jr., 60, of Chula passed away on Monday, February 2, 2015, at Tift Regional Medical Center. His funeral service will be held Friday, February 6, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Mr. Mixon will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends an hour before the service from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 6, 2015.
Gary Young, Jake Young, Dave Nehring, Ricky Paulk, Duran Paulk, Bryan Golden, Zack Golden, Michael Coffey, David Moore, Ricky Bryan and Dean Tolla will serve as pallbearers.
Carroll was born September 21, 1954 to Herman Carroll and Myrtle Lee (Griffin) Mixon in Ocilla. He attended Ocilla Schools, graduating in 1972, where he was active in FFA and played on the football team. He married Cheryl Lynn (Paulk) Mixon in 1975 and had two sons Duane Carroll (Jessica) Mixon and Matthew Paul (Adrienne) Mixon. He sold Agricultural Equipment including associations with Fix Equipment in Wray Colorado, Reliable Tractor of Tifton and ended his career with Kelley Manufacturing as International Sales Manager. He traveled extensively and made friends all over the world. He enjoyed all outdoor activities but especially hunting, fishing and golfing. He was actively involved in his sons’ band activities during their high school years and served as president of the band parents association in 1998. During the last years, he enjoyed playing with his grandchildren, Miles, Iris and Silas Mixon.
He was preceded in death by his father and his brother, James Curtis Mixon.
He is survived by his wife and children, mother and sister, Cathy Golden; mother in law, Belle Paulk Mooney; sisters-in-law, Joy (Ricky) Bryan, Kara(David)Moore, Dawn Mixon; brother-in law, Ricky (Elaine ) Paulk; special best friends, Gary (Beth) Young, Dave (Sharon ) Nehring; nieces and nephews, Michael (Heather) Coffey, Tara (Asah) Huggins, Trent (Jaci) Bryan, Duran (Kayla) Paulk, Tyler Bryan, Adair Moore, Taylor (Vince) Walker, Chelsea Moore, Zack Golden and Becky Golden; and honorary nieces and nephews, Jake (Elizabeth) Young, Laura (Andrew) Holland and Luke Holland.
