Obituary

Mr. Frank V. Sollitto, age 85, a lifelong resident of Medford passed away peacefully in his home January 31, 2015. He was the beloved husband of the late Patricia (Fargo) Sollitto. Born in Medford Frank was the cherished son of the late Frank W. and Mildred (Leverone) Sollitto.

"Sonny" as he was affectionately known to his family and friends, was raised and educated in Medford. He was a graduate of Medford High School and Boston College. He was a proud United States Marine Corp Veteran of the Korean War serving as a 1st Lieutenant from 1953 to 1955.

Sonny was the former director of the Medford Recreational Department. He was the former Assistant Principal of the West Marshall School in Watertown and was also a math teacher at the Watertown Public High School. For many years Sonny was the Football Coach of Watertown High School and was inducted as a member of the Watertown High School Hall of Fame. He was the former football coach at St. Mary's High School in Waltham, Medford High School, Harvard University and Tufts College. As a young man, Sonny was a standout student athlete at Medford High School, Boston College and with the Marine Corps. He was a member of the Boston College varsity Club, Gridiron Club and the Boston College Football Alumni. Sonny also played baseball for several seasons with the Malden City Club of the Intercity Baseball League.

In his leisure time Sonny enjoyed working with his model trains, and was a huge fan of Boston College and Notre Dame Football. However his greatest joy was his family and supporting them in all their academic and sporting activities. He cherished spending time with his children and especially being the number one fan of his grandchildren whom he was so proud of.

Sonny is survived by his devoted children; Billy Sollitto and his wife Terri of Reading, MA and York, ME, Stephen Sollitto of Los Angeles, CA, Caren McDonough and her husband Brian of Melrose, Kevin Sollitto and his wife Jennifer of Medford. He was the loving Grampi of Matthew and Cameron McDonough, Ally and Ashley Sollitto. Brother of Dottie Kelley of Santa Barbara, CA. and is further survived by many loving extended family members.

Funeral services will be held from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., MEDFORD, Friday, February 6th, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Raphael Church, 512 High St., Medford, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Dello Russo Funeral Home will be held on Thursday from 4 thru 8 p.m. Services will conclude with military honors and burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Frank's memory to the American Parkinson's Disease Assoc.
