Mrs. Aubrey S. Prescott, 96, of Fitzgerald, died January 30, 2015, at Palemon Gaskins Memorial Nursing Home in Ocilla.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Sunday, February 1, 2015, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald with the Rev. Dr. Michael Ruffin and the Rev. Farise Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 Saturday evening at the funeral home.
Mrs. Prescott was born March 27, 1918, in Fitzgerald, Georgia, to the late Larry G. & Lottie Mae Bowers Swords. She was a 1935 graduate of Fitzgerald High School and spent her entire life in the community. She formerly worked for a local attorney performing title searches and worked as a lunchroom worker and substitute teacher at Ashton School. Alongside her husband, she helped operate the family farm and was a homemaker. Mrs. Prescott was a member of the Cherokee Garden Club and was a talented seamstress, crocheting baby blankets for many of her family and friends. She enjoyed cooking and will be remembered for her homemade cakes and baked goods. She was a member of First Baptist Church and was active in the Sunday school department.
She is survived by her children and their spouses: Russell “Buddy” Prescott, Jr. and his wife Norma of Fitzgerald, Cecilia P. Greene and her husband Dr. Edgar Greene of Fernandina Beach, Florida, Donna P. Sheffield and her husband Tony of Fitzgerald, and Catharine P. Gunby and her husband Gregg of Fitzgerald; eight grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell E. Prescott and three brothers: Larry Swords, Cecil Swords, and Edwin Swords.
