William B. Cooney, age 75, of Norton, formerly of Mansfield passed away peacefully on Friday, January 30, 2015 at the Life Care Center in Attleboro.
He was the beloved husband of Joyce A. (Price) Cooney to whom he was wed on September 21, 1969.
Born in Boston, MA 0n January 12, 1942, he was a son of the late William P. and Ruth E. (Snow) Cooney.
Bill grew up in Plainville and was a graduate of King Phillip High School. He furthered his education and was a graduate of Wenthworth Institute.
Prior to retiring, Mr. Cooney had worked as a steam engineer at the Faulkner Hospital in Jamaica Plain. He had previously been employed as an electrician at the former Foxboro Co. in East Bridgewater.
A resident of Norton for the past 24 yeas, Bill was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield. His interests included reading; especially books pertaining to science and he also enjoyed listening to classical music.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son George P. Cooney and his wife Melissa of South Attleboro. He was the brother of Sheila R. Cooney and Judith E. Cooney both of Taunton, Paul R. Cooney of Plainville and the late Derith E. Amaral. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Stephen Cooney and Emily Cooney, and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend his funeral Mass which will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 4th at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt Street (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will be held privately at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Mansfield.
