WENHAM: George O. Bushey, 83, retired Beverly firefighter, died peacefully on Sunday, January 25, 2015 in the Essex Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. He was the beloved husband of Mae E. (Cormier) Bushey.
Born in Salem on June 26, 1931, he was the son of the late G. Harley Bushey and Rose A. (French) Burt. He had resided in Beverly for many years before moving to Wenham twenty-eight years ago. A. U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, he was honorably discharged in May 1952.
George served the City of Beverly as a firefighter for over twenty years before his retirement in 1986. He was also once employed as a brakeman for the Boston & Maine Railroad for several years. He loved being on the sea, lobstering and sailing.
He especially enjoyed golfing and loved gardening. He was a former member of the Wenham Country Club and member of the Beverly-Salem Lodge of Elks #1309.
In addition to his wife of sixty-two years, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia R. and Vincent Venturo; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary W. and Mary E. (LeClerc) Bushey; beloved granddaughter, Katie M. Bushey; brother-in-law, Leonard Allan Cormier and his wife, Arlene; two sisters-in-law, Judith Celeste and her husband, Philip and Carole McCarthy and her husband, Philip and several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his two sons, Michael L. and Steven G. Bushey.
His funeral service will be held on Saturday in the Grondin Funeral Home, 376 Cabot Street, Beverly, at 12 noon. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10 a.m. – 12 noon.
