Elmer Rome Shafer

Elmer Rome Shafer, 93, of Anderson died January 26, 2015 at Marion General Hospital after an extended illness.
He was born May 21, 1921 in Anderson where he lived all his life, graduating from Anderson High School in 1941 and Anderson Apprentice School.
He served in the U. S. Army Amphibian Engineers during World War II from July 10, 1942 to December 3, 1945. He was in the Asiatic-Pacific theater for 2 years, 9 months.
He married Helen B. Bronnenberg in 1947. Helen died in 1959; then he married Lois I. Harris, June 25, 1961.
He worked at Delco Remy Division of General Motors for 41 1/2 years retiring from the engineering-drafting department in 1982.
He enjoyed spending time with his family. He travelled to most of the 50 states as well as a number of foreign countries.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Lois Ina (Harris) Shafer of Anderson; son, Steven L. (Peggy) Shafer of Gas City, IN; grandchildren, Nora L. (Michael) Earhart of Manhattan, KS; Neil A. (Marybeth) Shafer of Mitchell, IN; Valerie A. (Robert) Bankson of Hartford City, IN; great-grandchildren, Reanna and Jessi Shafer, Mitchell, IN; Zachary, Emily, and Wyatt Earhart, Manhattan, Kansas; Annaliese, Keirsten, Christopher and Graham Bankson all of Hartford City, IN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rome C. and Nellie Douglas Shafer; first wife, Helen B. Bronnenberg; sister, Catherine Shafer; Brother, Harry Shafer and great grandson , Levi Earhart.
Services will be at 1:30 pm on Friday, January 30, 2015 at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service with Rev. William Mathys officiating. The burial will take place at Grovelawn Cemetery in Pendleton of the Shafer plot. Military rites will be conducted by the VFW Honor Guard Post 266.
Visitation will be on Friday, January 30, 2015 from 11:30 am-1:30 pm at the funeral home.
