Janie Ruth Cook Barnes, 82, of Tifton died Thursday, January 22, 2015, at Pruitt Health Sylvester in Sylvester. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 25, 2015, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with Rev. Danita Knowles and Rev. B. J. Funk officiating. Ms. Barnes will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 24, 2015, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Kenneth Brewer, Tim Martin, Butch Martin and Benny Allen will be among those who will serve as pallbearers.
Ms. Barnes was born on October 5, 1932 in Tift County and was the daughter of E. F. Cook and Shirley Walker Cook, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by one son, Mark Barnes. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Tifton, where she kept the nursery for 30 years and where she was an active member of the “T.H.U.G.S.” group and the McCord Sunday school class. She enjoyed making jam in the summer and all sorts of goodies at Christmas and giving them to family and friends.
Ms. Barnes is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Craig and Brenda Barnes of Tifton and Britt Barnes of Monticello, Florida; and four grandchildren, Korey Barnes, Amanda Barnes, Dallas Barnes and Austin Barnes.
