Obituary

Donald W. “Don” Morrison, 73, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Sunday, January 18, 2015, in Tifton, Georgia.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Thursday, January 22, 2015, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Freddie Smith officiating. His son, Andrew Morrison, will give the eulogy. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery.

Mr. Morrison was born July 21, 1941, in Fitzgerald, Georgia, the only child of the late Edgar Wallace & Ann Stuckey Morrison. He earned his Eagle Scout rank through the Boy Scouts of America. He was a graduate of Waycross High School and attended South Georgia College. Mr. Morrison had a distinguished career with the railroad over a 35-year span. He began as a locomotive mechanic in the railroad shops of Atlantic Coast Line in Waycross. After he earned his draftsman certificate, he moved into the drawing room. While a draftsman, he produced an architectural rendering of Rice Yard. The drawing impressed his superiors so much that it now hangs in the CSX Board Room in Jacksonville, Florida. Mr. Morrison was promoted to the general office building in Jacksonville and retired as the general manager for mechanical operations in Huntington, West Virginia. Mr. Morrison was a talented woodworker with an eye for detail. He also had a love of fishing and landed many prize fish. He was a devoted husband and father whose greatest love was his family. He was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Joyce E. Morrison of Fitzgerald; daughter and son-in-law, Donna & Mark P. Cavalli of Oakland, California; son and daughter-in-law, Andrew & Carly Morrison of Lakeland, Florida; and a grandson, Dylan Morrison.
