HOPKINTON: Barbara Durling Miller, 91, died peacefully on January 12, 2015 following a period of declining health.
She was born in New Rochelle, New York on January 16, 1923 the daughter of the late Arthur F. Durling and Daisy A. (Searle) Durling.
Barbara is survived by her husband of fourteen years, Thomas E. Miller of Hopkinton formerly of Pocasset. Mother of Diane G. Karagianis and her husband George Karagianis of Milford and Deborah G. Strafuss and her husband Arthur Strafuss of Wayland. Sister of Jean DiMaria of New City, New York, Joan Schmidt of Geneseo, IL and the late Shirley Welch. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson and several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her husbands Charles F. Goepel and John R. Shibles.
Barbara graduated from Mamaroneck High School in New York and spent her formative years in Larchmont, NY. She raised her daughters in Wayland where she resided for many years. She also resided in Weston for over 18 years before moving to Pocasset in 1995.
While residing in Wayland she was an active member of the Trinitarian Congregational Church and was involved in many activities there including serving as the editor of the TCC newsletter. She was very proud of her published articles in Reader’s Digest and was an accomplished writer. She enjoyed keeping in touch with family and friends through letter writing. Among her many hobbies and interests were the love of gardening, bird watching and travel. Barbara was a deeply spiritual woman and lived her faith on a daily basis.
During her residency in Pocasset, Barbara was active with the North Falmouth Congregational Church and was a member of Saints and Singers and the Christian Womens Club. She was also a member of the Aptucxet Garden Club, the Bourne Council on Aging and the Merry Fitness Group at Lily Pond Overlook. Barbara also delighted in listening to music of all types. Her most treasured gift was the devotion and love she had for her family and the time spent with them.
Visitations will be held on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 from 3:30 to 6:30 PM at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (Off Rte 30), Wayland.
Her funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at 10:00 o’clock followed by interment in Linwood Cemetery in Weston.
