Obituary

R. Laurent “Larry” Messier, 97, of Waterfront Drive, formerly of Johnston, died Tuesday, January 13, 2015, surrounded by his loved ones. He was the husband of the late Evelyn (Denis) Messier. She was the love of his life and they had been married for 74 years.

Born in Connecticut, he was a son of the late Sergeas and Georgiana (Menard) Messier. He lived in Johnston for 40 years before moving to Greenville and then to Tockwotton on the Waterfront.

He was always a gentleman with a twinkle in his eye and joy in his heart. He lived his life for his family and got great joy out of all their activities and accomplishments. Most of all he remained the kindest person they knew and was continually willing to make room at his table.

He was a lifelong lawn bowler and won the New England Lawn Bowling Singles Championship in 1988 and received a bronze medal in the RI State Games in 1996. He was a member and had been president of several lawn bowling clubs throughout his lifetime.

He is survived by his children: Lynn L. Messier and his wife, Marilyn of Maine, Lucille Thayer Jarrow and her husband John D. Jarrow of Warwick and Marco Island, FL and Leo D.Messier and his wife Diane of Providence and Naragansett; 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He was the father of the late Laura O’Donnell.

Funeral Friday at 8:30 AM_from the ANDERSON-WINFIELD Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville, RI. Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30AM in St. Philip Church, 622 Putnam Pike, Greenville, RI. Burial in Highland Memorial Park Cemetery, Johnston. Visitation Thursday 2-4PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Tockwotton on the Waterfront, 500 Waterfront Drive, East Providence, RI 02914
