SPENCER: Susanna “Susi” Cavigioli, 91, died Wednesday, Jan. 7 in a nursing home. Her husband Remo Cavigioli passed away in 2013 at 87 years old. They were married 53 years. She leaves two sons; Marc and Chris, his wife Carrie and a grandson. She leaves two brothers; Matthis in France, Christoph in Switzerland and one sister; Katharina also in Switzerland. Mrs. Cavigioli was born in Switzerland into a family of 8 children. Her dad was the town pastor and her mom was originally from Germany. She was the first Swiss Registered Nurse to take and pass the United States Nursing Boards. She began her career in Ogden, Utah as an operating room nurse, worked in Bakersfield, CA, then for many years at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston, working with the doctors who performed the world’s first successful kidney transplant, earning them a Nobel Prize. Her only sibling in USA, a brother, was professor at Harvard University and Director of the Harvard Forest. She retired in 1992 as the Spencer District nurse, caring for the sick and elderly. Susi was a long time member of the First Congregational Church, the Worcester Music Club and the Swiss-American Society.
A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, January 18, 2015 at 2:00pm in the First Congregational Church of Spencer, 205 Main Street, Spencer. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
