Obituary

Joseph A. "Andy" Bertrand, 68, of New Bedford died Wednesday December 22, 2004 at home after a long illness. He was the husband of Maureen (Sousa) Bertrand.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Claire (Lemire) and Napoleon Paul Bertrand, he had lived in New Bedford for all of his life.

He was a communicant of St. Lawrence Church.

Mr. Bertrand was the proprietor of Bertrand Piping & Heating Company for over 40 years.

Mr. Bertrand served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War, and was a recipient of the National Defense Service medal and the Good Conduct medal.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Mark Bertrand of Punta Gorda, Fla.; a daughter, Brenda Bertrand of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Annemarie Ralph of Los Angeles, Calif.; a sister, Georgette Fredette of Belair, Maryland; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Lucia Vessels and Rev. Raymond Bertrand, S.J.

Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford December 27, 2004 Monday at 9 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Lawrence Church at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Sunday December 26, 2004 from 3-7 PM. Burial with Military Honors will take place in Riverside Cemetery, Fairhaven.
