Jewel "Victoria" Beard Courtoy, 92, of Tifton died Sunday, January 11, 2015, at Golden Living Center in Tifton. Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 14, 2015, at Eastside Baptist Church in Tifton with Rev. Shane Ashley officiating. Mrs. Courtoy will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 14, 2015, from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of the service at Eastside Baptist Church in Tifton.
The deacons of Eastside Baptist Church in Tifton will serve as pallbearers.
Mrs. Courtoy was born on July 25, 1922 in Sycamore and was the daughter of Joe H. Beard and Jewel Smith Beard, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Rev. Jasper Earl Courtoy, who she married on November 28, 1942; and one daughter-in-law, Nancy Courtoy; five brothers, Hugh Beard, Houston Beard, Vivian Beard, Carl Beard and Sidney Beard; and one sister, Norma Beard Jenkins. She graduated from Turner County High School. She was a homemaker and member of Eastside Baptist Church in Tifton. She was a member of the Kitchen Band at Tifton’s First United Methodist Church and was active in the WMU in churches where her husband pastored.
Mrs. Courtoy is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Randall Courtoy, Gary and Gerri Courtoy and Byron and Renee Courtoy, all of Tifton; one daughter and son-in-law, Phylis and Jim Willis of Cobb; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
