Obituary

CHICOPEE – Yvette A. (Lapierre) Bergeron, 95, of the Fairview section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, January 8, 2015. She passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Holyoke on October 29, 1919, a beloved daughter of the late Israel and Blanche (Comtois) Lapierre. Her early years were spent in Holyoke and, in 1939, her family settled in the Fairview section of Chicopee. Yvette worked at Mount Holyoke College for many years before retiring from the National Blank Book Company. She was the oldest of thirteen children and was a nurturing leader and teacher all her life. Yvette was involved with scouting for over 30 years and was a Girl Scout Leader, a Cub Scout Leader and the Director of Camps. She was a dedicated parishioner of Saint Anne Church in Fairview where she was a lifelong member of the Saint Anne Sodality and the Ladies Guild. She was a CCD teacher for 45 years and served on the Parish Council. She was a member of the Fairview Golden Agers for 25 years and served as their President for ten years. Yvette was the widow of the late Arthur L. Bergeron who was Called Home on August 3, 1975. She is survived by her daughter, Ann (Bergeron) Bacchiocchi and her husband, Don, of East Longmeadow; four granddaughters, Wendy Russo of Chicopee, Donna Bacchiocchi of Watertown, Jennifer Stefanik and her husband, Tom, of Chicopee, and Susan Bacchiocchi Misco and her husband, Dan, of Chicopee; her three great-grandchildren, Daniel and Emily Stefanik, and Evelyn Misco; her four brothers, Raymond Lapierre and his wife, Theresa, of Chicopee, Daniel "Boomer" Lapierre and his wife, Carol, of Westbury, NY, Roger "Duke" Lapierre and his wife, Shirley, of Fairview, and Vincent Lapierre and his wife, Jan, of Springfield; her sisters-in-law, Barbara Lapierre of Fairview and Pilar Lapierre of Spain; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins and extended members of the Bergeron and Lapierre families. Besides her parents and husband, Yvette was predeceased by her son, Daniel Bergeron; her daughter-in-law, Ruth Bergeron; her sisters, Bernadette Brodeur, Gertrude Lapierre, Anita Lapierre, Florence "Tilly" Losty, Frances McCann, and Theresa Greenwood; and her brothers, Adrien "Sonny" Lapierre and Donald Lapierre. Her family would like to thank the staff at Baystate Medical Center's Springfield 6400 Unit and the Palliative Care Services and Wingate at East Longmeadow for their kindness and care of Yvette. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday morning, January 13, 2015 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 9:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Notre Dame Cemetery, 63 Lyman Street, South Hadley, MA 01075. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, January 12, 2015 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot is located in the rear of the funeral home.
