James McLeavy, age 88, passed away on Jan. 5, 2015 at Country Estates in Agawam. He was born on May 24, 1926 in Springfield, MA, a son of the late James and Davina (Robertson) McLeavy. James worked as a hostler for Amtrak Railroad for 32 years and also for Penn Center Conrail and New Haven Railroad before he retired in 1988. He was a communicant of Holy Name of Jesus Parish. He served in the British Army with the Royal Engineers during WWII. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Elder Council #69 and was also a 4th Degree Member of the Fr Dan Doyle Council. He was a past Grand Knight, a former District Deputy and Financial secretary for 26 years, a life member of the Tigers A.C. and spent over 20 years as a Notary Public for the State of MA. He was also a part of the Royal Engineer Service. He is predeceased by his sister Mary Healy and his step sister, Grace Goodwin. He leaves his step brother, Charles J. McLeavy of Austin, TX, along with many nieces and nephews. A funeral home service will be held on Monday, Jan. 12, 2015 at 10 a.m. followed by burial in St Patricks Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, Jan. 11, 2015 from 2-4 p.m. at the Grise Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee.
