Obituary

GLOUCESTER – Jane S. (Paliliunas) Barrett, 89, joined her husband, David E. Barrett, in heaven on January 5, 2015. She and David had shared 51 years of marriage at the time of his death in 2004.
Born in Amsterdam, NY on August 25, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Magdalene (Morse) Paliliunas. She lived the majority of her life in Worcester and moved ten years ago to Gloucester to reside with her daughter and son-in-law.
Jane worked as a seamstress at Fitzwell Girdle Co. in Worcester, and was most proud to be chosen to stitch parachutes and Mae West vests to supply soldiers during World War II. She stitched a note with her name and a message into the seams or pockets, and wrote words of encouragement to any soldier that corresponded with her.
Jane loved caring for her family, ten pin bowling, baking, crafts, the Red Sox, and scratch tickets.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Thomas Stankus of Plymouth and Edith and John Fortado; brother, Edward Paliliunas of Northboro; niece, Donna Donovan of Arizona as well as several nieces and nephews of Northboro, Arizona, Ohio, Mississippi and Texas.
Her interment at the Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton, and a celebration of her life will take place in the spring. There are no visiting hours. As a survivor of cancer, donations may be made in her memory to the Addison Gilbert Hospital, Gorton’s Cancer Center, Attn: 4th floor, 298 Washington Street, Gloucester, MA 01930.
