Richard E. ”Dick” Mahoney, age 85, of Brockton, died Friday January 2, 2015 at Signature Healthcare/Brockton Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was the devoted husband of Elizabeth M. (Lupica) Mahoney for 63 years. Richard was born and raised in Brockton, a son of the late Harry and Catherine (Saba) Mahoney and remained a lifelong resident of the city. He attended Coyle High School in Taunton and served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.
Richard was a flexographic printer by trade and had been employed by M. B. Claff & Sons in Brockton for 36 years and retired from Shoe Carton Corp in Billerica in 1991 after 8 years.
In his free time Richard enjoyed antiquing, gardening and playing horseshoes at the Whitman VFW. He was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan, and liked to talk about boxing history. Most importantly, Richard will be remembered as a caring and religious man whose life centered around his family and who was proud of their accomplishments. He especially enjoyed the frequent family gatherings around meals.
Richard was a longtime communicant of Christ the King Parish.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his eight children Mary Anne Donahue and her husband Daniel of Nashua, NH; John and his wife Virginia of Brockton; Kathleen Miquel and her husband Robert of Middleboro, Richard and his wife Maureen of Barnstable, Theresa Thyden and her husband John of Sutton, MA; Paul and his wife Elizabeth of Berkley, MA; Patricia Flammini and her husband Steven of Mansfield and Susan Lane of Berkley, MA. He also leaves 22 grandchildren Gregory Mahoney,Alaina Mahoney, Christopher Mahoney, Lindsey Mahoney, Kyle Mahoney, Colleen Kopczynskie, Daniel Donahue, Robert Miquel, Julie Miquel, Matthew Flammini, Thomas Flammini, Kristen Flammini, Melissa Thyden, Michael Thyden, Richard Thyden, Sara Thyden, Andrew Mahoney, Michael Mahoney, Alyssa Mahoney, Abigail Lane, Benjamin Lane and Ethan Lane. Richard was the brother of the late Arthur, Robert, Donald and Mary Ann Mahoney and Laurel Clark and an uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont Street (rte. 123) Brockton on Wednesday 4-7 pm. The procession will gather at the funeral home at 8 am on Thursday for a Funeral Mass in Christ the King Parish at 9 am Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
