Clifton E. Smart, 82, of Milford, NH, died Saturday, January 3, 2015 at the Crestwood Nursing Home in Milford, after a period of declining health. He was born September 25, 1932 in East Derry, NH, a son of the late Charles H. and Harriette (Cross) Smart. Mr. Smart served with the United States Army during the Korean War era. He was a lifelong resident of Derry prior relocating to Nashua, NH where he was employed by Ingersol-Rand for more than 25 years. He enjoyed camping.
He is survived by his three daughters, Carol Kerr and her husband Don of Nashua, Susan Curtis of Concord, NH, Sharon Magee and her husband Matt of Horn Lake, MS, his son, Charles Smart and his wife Diane of Litchfield, NH, nine grandchildren, Jennifer, Caroline, Jason, Jenni, Colleen, Adam, Scott, James and Jeremy, as well as many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his second wife, Nancy ( Morey) Smart in 2003, his daughter, Cathy Menento and a grandson, Jeffrey.
There are no calling hours. Burial with military honors took place at 11:00am on Friday September 25, 2015 at the Forest Hill Cemetery, East Derry. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Crestwood Nursing Home, 40 Crosby Street, Milford, NH 03055, or Compassionate Care Hospice, 25 Nashua Rd., Londonderry, NH, 03053. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium is assisting the family with arrangements.
