Alice R. (Rabin) Michelsen, age 98 years, of New Bedford died Sunday, December 28, 2014 at New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home after a period of failing health. She was the wife of the late Franklin H. Michelsen.
Daughter of the late Paul and Mary (Dlugosz) Rabin, she was born in this city and was a lifelong resident. She was an active member of Grace Episcopal Church and the Episcopal Chuch Women's Group and was one of their original charter volunteers with the church thrift shop. Alice also devoted much of her time caring for ill family members, was active with the Business and Professional Women's Club and the New Bedford Glass Society.
Sister of the late Charles Babin and Robert Pitts, she is survived by her sons Franklin of Cotuit, Ma. and Eric and his wife, Yvette of Waldoboro. Maine, a goddaughter, Donna Macomber Blackburn, cousins June and Betty White and Gail Virbua and Mary Galuska, numerous nieces and nephews and longtime friends and neighbors, Margaret, Larry, Clifford & Marla Taylor.
Employed by the Commonwealth of Mass. Divisiorn of Unemployment, she in the past worked for HemingwayTransport Co. in inventory control and Revere. Copper and Brass.
Her memorial service will take place on Saturday, January 3, 2015, at 12 Noon in Grace Episcopal Church, County and School Sts., New Bedford. Burial is private. In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to the Food Pantry of Grace Church, 133 School St., New Bedford, Ma. 02740.
