Haines City, FL – Austin R. Shallow, age 89, died on December 29, 2014 at the Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center in Haines City. He was the beloved husband of Margaret E. (Sweeney) (Poverchuk) Shallow, who died on January 1st, 2014.
Austin lived in Massachusetts and New Hampshire before retiring to Massachusetts and Davenport, Florida. He had been in residence at Savannah Court of Haines City, FL since October.
During WW2, he served in the U.S. Navy, and was honorably discharged as a Yeoman Third Class.
He worked in public relations and marketing, and was the founder of the Ausmar Associates public relations company. He was a professional associate and member of NAFCA of New England. In his retirement, along with his late wife, he enjoyed his role as a Cast Member at Disney’s theme parks.
Austin was active in several fraternal groups as a life member of the Ernest W. Young, American Legion, Post 63, in Salem, NH, where he was Past Commander; the Forty and Eight, Voiture 548, in Manchester, NH; The B.P.O. Elks, Lodge 2226 in Salem, NH; and a life member of the Good Sam Club and AARP.
Austin and his late wife enjoyed life on the road in a motorhome, time on the computer, dancing and attending theatrical performances.
He leaves ten children, Robert Shallow of Salem, NH; Ellen Molnar and her husband Jeff of Berwick, ME; Patricia Spear and her husband Mike of Northwood, NH; Margaret Poverchuk of Lowell, MA; Diane D’Elia and her husband Thomas of Burke, VA; John Poverchuk and his wife Susan of Medford, MA, Denise Gizzi and her husband Robert of Billerica, MA; Linda Poverchuk of MA; Andrew Poverchuk of MA, Scott Poverchuk of Haverhill, MA; 18 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild; a brother Frank Butterfield of St. Augustine, FL; a sister Barbara Phillips of St. Augustine, FL; and many nieces and nephews; and was predeceased by a son Joseph Poverchuk.
In lieu of flowers, Austin requested memorials to any American Legion Post of donor’s choice.
Memorial visiting hours will be held Sunday, April 26, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Tewksbury Funeral Home, corner of 1 Dewey and 975 Main Sts. (Rte 38) TEWKSBURY CENTER. Memorial prayers will be offered at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. Committal rites with Navy Honors will be held Monday, April 27, at 1:00 p.m. in the Mass Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen St., Winchendon.
