Obituary

George X. Sipsey, age 90 of Andover passed away on December 22, 2014. George was born and educated in Lawrence. He was a longtime parishioner of Sacred Heart Parish. George worked at A.T.T. in North Andover (currently Lucent Technologies) in the Customer Service Department for 30 years before retiring in 1986.

During WWII, George served with the 43rd Infantry Division in the South Pacific Campaign. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with Two Battle Stars and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Service Star. At the end of Hostilities, he was assigned to Japan as part of the occupying force before his discharge.

During the 1970’s George was a Little League Baseball coach in the South Lawrence West Division. He was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Lawrence Knights of Columbus and a life time member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Survivors include his son John P. Sipsey of Brookfield, MA, brother John J. Sipsey of Methuen, grandchildren Eric P. Sipsey of Hudson, NH and Sean R. Sipsey of Hudson, NH. George was predeceased by his loving wife Rita (LaBonte) Sipsey, sister Virginia Horan and a brother William Sipsey.

Friends and guests are invited to call on Monday, January 5, 2015 at 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence St. Methuen. A funeral service will be held at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Andover.
