Obituary

George H. Stevens, Jr., 89, died Wednesday evening at the Rhode Island Veterans Home in Bristol. He was the former husband of Yvette L. (Bell) Stevens.
Born in Woonsocket he was a son of the late George H. Stevens Sr. and Catherine M. (Jackman) Stevens. He was a resident of Woonsocket for most of his life also having lived in North Smithfield for several years. He was a graduate of Woonsocket High School and Providence College.
During WWII Mr. Stevens served in the U. S Navy.
Mr. Stevens taught 8th grade English at Woonsocket Junior High School for many years. He also worked at a number of local restaurants.
George was a member of the American Legion Fairmont Post #85 and enjoyed attending events at the Italian Workingman’s Club and was an enthusiastic sports fan.
In addition to his former wife he is survived by three sons Bruce P. Stevens and his companion, Tammy, of GA, George R. Stevens of Woonsocket, and Anthony D. Stevens and his wife, Kelley, of North Smithfield, and a daughter Catherine M. Fitzsimmons of CA. He was the father of the late Catherine B. Stevens and brother of Joseph Stevens of Blackstone and the late Mary McKitchen. He is also survived by five grandchildren Annie and Emily Stevens, Sean Fitzsimmons, Andrew and Meghan Stevens and several nieces and nephews.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday at 10:00 am in Precious Blood Church, Carrington Ave. Woonsocket. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Charles Cemetery, Blackstone. Visiting hours are Tuesday morning from 8:30-9:30 am, prior to Mass, in the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave. Woonsocket.
