Lorraine F. Soares of Lakeville, formerly of New Bedford, passed away on December 24, 2014 at home after a brief illness. She was the daughter of the late Emilia and John Lawton of Fairhaven, and a longtime parishioner of St. Lawrence Church in New Bedford.
After years employed at both Aerovox Company and The Standard-Times, Mrs. Soares enrolled in the Evening High School Program at New Bedford High School. Upon her graduation in 1975, she was employed as a secretary/receptionist for Comprehensive Mental Health Systems (CMHS) for ten years. She was last employed at BJ's Wholesale Club in customer service for twelve years before retiring in 1998.
Lorraine was an avid walker who had a very vibrant personality.
She is survived by her husband, Avelino "Boboi" Soares of Lakeville; three sons, Steven Soares and his wife Doris, and Kenneth Soares, all of Lakeville, and Robert Soares of New Bedford; two sisters, Catherine Chaples and Gloria Monteiro, both of New Bedford; a sister-in-law, Louise Fortes of New Bedford; six grandchildren; a great-grandson; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Her Funeral will be held on Monday at 9 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at St. Lawrence Church at 10 AM. Visiting hours will be on Sunday from 3-6 PM. For directions and guestbook, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
