Elena Annette (Capachione) Martel passed away on December 24, 2014 at her residence in Easton, Massachusetts with her loving children, sisters and dear friends by her side. Elena was born on June 21, 1929 in Brockton where she lived for most of her life, residing in Easton Massachusetts for the last 18 years. Elena was a communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Brockton. She was the daughter of the late Sabino and Rose (Torronne) Capachione.
Elena attended public schools in Brockton, graduating with the Brockton High School Class of 1947, where she was voted Best Dressed of her class. She graduated from Fisher Jr. College in 1949 and worked as a secretary at Fairfield and Ellis in Boston.
She was the beloved wife of Richard Paul Martel for 58 years, who predeceased her in 2012.
Elena was an intelligent, talented and caring woman. In addition to raising five children, she also lovingly cared for her disabled brother for over 30 years.
Elena was an accomplished cook and outstanding baker, having won the Dunkin Hines award for the best chocolate cake. For 12 years Elena was the primary baker for her daughter’s restaurant "On The Park" in Boston.
Elena will be remembered for her deep devotion to her family and friends, her grace, sound wisdom and inherent style. Elena will be sorely missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege to know her.
Elena leaves behind her sons William and Michael of Brockton, David and his wife Cydney of Brookline and her daughter Lisa and her partner Emily Benson of Ojai, California. She was predeceased by her dear son Richard Paul Jr., her brother Tony Capachione and her sister Rose Formiconi of Rome, Italy. She also leaves five grandchildren; Samuel, Benjamin, Jack, Remi and Quinn. Elena was the devoted sister of Yolanda Moore and Marie Princigalli of East Bridgewater.
Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont Street (rte.123) Brockton on Sunday 2-6 pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home on Monday at 8am for her Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 9am. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Randolph.
The family respectfully asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Richard Paul Martel Jr. Scholarship at Bowdoin College, 4100 College Station, Brunswick, Maine 04011.
