Sharon Hendley Martin, 57, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Monday, December 22, 2014, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Friday, December 26, 2014, at Frank Primitive Baptist Church in Irwin County with Elder Edward McIntyre and Bro. Joey Veal officiating. Interment will follow in Frank Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until the service hour at the church.
Mrs. Martin was born January 26, 1957, in Bossier City, Louisiana to the late Herman Reason Hendley and was later adopted and raised by her grandmother, the late Ruby Morgan Hendley Bryant. A 1974 graduate of Irwin County High School, she received her Associates degree from ABAC. She also attended Albany State College while working toward her Bachelors in Education. She served as secretary and office deputy for many years to Sheriff Leonard Pope. She was elected Clerk of Superior Court and served the citizens of Irwin County in that capacity for several years. Mrs. Martin was employed by the Douglas Shopper and most recently worked as a legal secretary for the Mixon & Mixon Law firm. She was an active member of Frank Primitive Baptist Church and participated in many ministries of the church including singing in the choir, directing the annual Christmas pageant, typing the church bulletin, teaching the nursery class, and being a member of the Adult Bible study group as well as the Lamplighters Circle. Mrs. Martin loved the beach and enjoyed cross-stitching and sharing her handmade gifts with her friends and neighbors. She was very active in watching her children in their sports and activities and was an avid supporter of her nieces and nephews in everything that they did.
She is survived by her husband of 38 years: Alan Martin of Ocilla; a daughter: Missy & Taylor Paris of Gulf Shores, Alabama; a son: Nathan & Alecia Martin of Ocilla; two grandchildren: Landon Paris and Bryce Martin and one more on the way; a sister: Kelly & Greg Tucker of Tifton; her mother-in-law: Ella Jim Martin of Ocilla; a brother-in-law: Lee & Holli Martin of Ocilla; and a sister-in-law: Mary Lynn & Jackie Bracewell of Ocilla. Several nieces and nephews who will greatly miss their “Sha-Sha” as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins also survive. She will be greatly missed by her faithful companion, Rufus.
