Obituary

Victor Blouin (1916-2004) of Killdeer Island, passed away on Dec. 17 at Lanessa Health Care after a long illness. He was born in Amesbury, MA, and moved to Webster at the age of 12, living for a short time on Union St. and Bigelow Road, before moving to a farm on Lower Gore Road where he grew up. He was the son of Emile Blouin of PQ, Canada and Yvonne (Fournier) Blouin of Amesbury, MA. He leaves his son, Don Blouin of Roxbury, NY; his daughter, Diane DesRoches, grandson Bill DesRoches, granddaughter-in-law Monica and two great-grandchildren Kyle and Karina of San Diego; stepchildren, Ron Senecal of Southbridge and Sandy Hebert of Dudley, stepgrandchildren Michelle and Jon Paul Hebert; sisters Adrienne Strzelewicz, Rita Strzelewicz, Lucille LaPlante, Geraldine Grenier, Laurette Kuszewski, and Irene Mickiewic; brothers Roland and Richard Blouin, sister-in-law Nat Blouin, brothers-in-law Joe LaPlante, Paul Grenier, Charles Cobb and family and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by brothers Arthur and Emile Blouin and sister Eva. Mr. Blouin is also predeceased by his loving first wife and mother of his children, Rose Landry of Claremont, NH, beloved son Alfred (Freddie), and beloved sister-in-law Alma Cobb; and his second beloved wife of equally as many years, Irene Senecal of Sturbridge, MA. Vic, as he was known to friends and family, worked as a carpenter and a mason for the Mason Brothers for many years. He served as a seaman first class, USNR on the submarine chaser 630 during WWII. A strong swimmer, he often dove from the crow’s nest of his ship, and when he discovered that, though they were in the Navy, many of his shipmates did not know how to swim, he took this discovery to his captain who granted him permission to put lifevests on his shipmates and teach them to swim in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. His greatest loves were his family, animals, ice skating, ice boating, fishing—both lake and ice--swimming, carpentry, and gardening. He passed on his great passion for ice skating to his children, which led his son, Don, to join the Ice Capades prior to his becoming a realtor in NY. To his daughter, Diane, he passed on his great value of learning and education, which led her to become a teacher in San Diego. He was a loving, hands-on father, who not only taught his children, but joined in their fun. When his grandson, Bill, came to visit, he woke him daily in the wee hours to go fishing, while the rest of the house slept, and though he never met his great granddaughter, Karina, he loved her from afar through videotapes and the many pictures that graced his walls at the Lanessa Nursing Home where he had an extended family. He was always very proud of his family and they of him. He will be greatly missed by friends and family alike. Though athletic and strong of body, he was a gentle, loving soul with an ever-present twinkle in his eyes, strength of will and character, and loved by all who knew him.
