Obituary

STUART, FL –Bernard A. Gwiazdowski, 85, formerly of Thompson, died Thursday, Dec. 16, in Stuart after an illness. His wife of 53 years, Wanda J. (Ostrokolowicz) Gwiazdowski, died in 1997.

He leaves 2 sisters, Mary Polacek of Webster and Josephine Bachand of Dudley; nephews and nieces; and his brother-in-law, Bernard D. Ostrokololowicz, who had charge of his care. A sister, Florence T. Gamel of Webster, died in 1994.

He was born in Webster, son of Alexander and Stasia (Mrozinski) Gwiazdowski. He lived on Thompson Road in Thompson before moving to Florida in 1980. He attended Bartlett High School. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Rhineland and the Ardennes. He was awarded 11 medals, including the Purple Heart.

Mr. Gwiazdowski was a plumber for Kindler Plumbing Co. in Webster, and then worked at the American Optical Company in Southbridge before retiring in 1980. He was a member of St. Joseph Basilica in Webster and was a former member of the Webster-Dudley American Legion Post #184. He was an avid golfer.

The funeral, with military honors, will be held Wednesday, Dec. 22, from the Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School St., Webster, with a Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb St.,
Webster. Burial will be in St. Joseph Garden of Peace, Webster. A calling period will be from 8:30 to 9:30 AM Wednesday at the funeral home.
