Fall River – Francis S. “Frank” Fernandes, 80, of Portsmouth, RI died Friday, December 17, 2004 at Charlton Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Anna M. (Woytaszek) Fernandes.
He was born in Fall River, a son of the late Manuel S. and Georgiana (Faria) Fernandes, and lived there in his youth prior to moving to Westport, and residing in Portsmouth since 1999. Prior to his retirement in 1986, he was a mason with the I.U.B.A.C. Local 39 of New Bedford. He was also a maintenance engineer at Charlton Memorial Hospital prior to his retirement. Mr. Fernandes was a member of the Pentecostal Assembly Church, New Bedford. He enjoyed carpentry work, he was a loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.
Including his wife, he is survived by 2 daughters: Ann Marie Falaki of Assonet and Christine Hamilton of Tiverton; 2 brothers: John Fernandes of Carver, MA and Edward Fernandes of Somerset; a sister: Olive Frazier of Fall River; 7 grandchildren: David, Jonathan and Kevin Falaki, Clifford, Brandon and Matthew Hamilton and Cassandra E. (Salva) Means; and several nieces, nephews and godchildren.
He was the father of the late Joann E. Salva and brother of the late Manuel S. Fernandes and Joseph “Moose” Fernandes.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be from the Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Road, Westport, Monday, December 20, 2004 at 9:00 A.M. followed by a service at Pentecostal Assembly Church, 215 Sawyer Street, New Bedford at 10:30 A.M.
Calling hours Sunday 4 – 8 P.M.
Interment will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
