NEW BEDFORD — Leonard L. Spinner, age 69 years of New Bedford died Sunday, December 14, 2014. Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Leonard and Dorothy (Elais) Spinner.
Leonard was a D.J. at JC Lounge, Friends and Lovers, and the Meeting Place. An activist for HIV/AIDS, he was very instrumental in fighting for services. Lenny sat on many local boards including SWCAB, GNBCHC, The Consortium and received many awards. His most precious was the Ryan White award. He also sat on the Board of Directors of Legal Services.
Lenny had a passion for life, loved to travel and attend plays.
He is survived by 3 brothers; Alfred Spinner of Dartmouth and William Spinner and Barry Spinola of New Bedford; 4 sisters, Linda, Darleen, Cathy and Wendy all of New Bedford, his nephew Quantay who he loved with all he had, numerous nieces and nephews, his best friends Julie Hanley and Barton Dillonworth and his bird Hank.
He was predeceased by a sister, Marie Gelmete and his son Kenny Cardona.
Visitation and services will take place on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. in the WILSON CHAPEL, 479 County St. New Bedford, followed by cremation.
