Dorothy E. (Ames) Bigelow, 86, a resident of Medway for 69 years, passed away at home on December 16, 2014. She was the wife of 64 years to John L. Bigelow, Jr. who died in 2011.
The daughter of the late Oliver and Gladys (Parmenter) Ames, she was born and raised in Cochituate and graduated from Wayland High School in 1946.
Dorothy was a member of the Medway Community Church and active in Girls Scouts and Cub Scouts for many years. She loved being a homemaker, crafts, baking and gardening and was an avid Celtics fan.
She is survived by her children, Dorothy Skog, John Bigelow and his wife Cindi and Donald Bigelow, all of Medway and Joanne Lesiak and her husband Joseph of Hopedale, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was the grandmother of the late Matt Bigelow and Ashawna Boykin.
She was the sister of Maybelle Schnepel of Cochituate and pre-deceased by her sisters, Blanche Jay and Marjorie Stratton and her brothers Clarence, Herbert “Ted”, Roy and Robert Ames, all formerly of Cochituate.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Thursday, December 18 from 4 -7 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 7 p.m. at the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber St. in Medway (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com).
