Catherine Barkowsky, 93, of Mystic, passed away on Nov. 20, 2014, at her home of 90 years.
Born and raised in Mystic, she graduated from Stonington High School in 1939, and was the daughter of the late George and Dorothea Barkowsky.
She enjoyed sports with the Red Soxs and Patriots being her favorites. Fishing with her best friend, Sandy, and crabbing from her dock were some of the things she liked doing best. She recently hiked the Hewitt Farm with her niece. She enjoyed the outdoors and wildlife with the cardinal as her favorite bird.
She retired early from the Arwood Corp. of Groton, so she could take care of her parents at home with her mother living to the age of 98 and her father to 86.
She leaves behind three nieces, Susette Singer of Ledyard, Charlene Moudy of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Bonnie Merchant of Girswold; three nephews, Michael Singer of Sonington, Rodney Singer of Ledyard, and Joe Singer of Preston; two great nieces, Debbie Hamilton of Colchester and Lori Pocock of Groton; a great-great-niece, Ashlee Hamilton of Colchester; three great-great-nephews, Cameron Hamilton of Colchester, and Patrick and Jeffrey Yuhas of Groton.
She was predeceased by her three siblings, older brother, George Barkowsky, older sister, Dorothea Singer, younger brother, Al Barkowsky, and her eldest nephew, Henry Singer.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any wildlife rescue organization.
In memory of Catherine "Katie", a memorial picnic will be planned at a future date.
