Rev. Leonard Conger, 83, of Tifton died Friday, December 12, 2014, at Tift Regional Medical Center. His funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 14, 2014, at Oakey Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Berrien County with Rev. Johnny Guy, Rev. Kevin Stone and Rev. Larry Stone officiating. Rev. Conger will be laid to rest at Oakey Grove Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Berrien County. The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 13, 2014, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Conger will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.
Jason Conger, Jamie Conger, Edward Blount, Calloway Nichols, Jim Conger and Joe Grant will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of Oakey Grove Church in Berrien County and Terry Moore.
Rev. Conger was born on September 12, 1931 in Berrien County and was the son of Hazel Clark Conger and Stella Mae Hall Conger, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Roy Edward Conger and Wilburn Conger; and two sisters. Aline Nichols and Inez Conger. He was a minister and retired from J.P. Stevens/Forstman. He was pastor of Oakey Grove Missionary Baptist Church and former pastor of Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church and New Griffin Missionary Baptist Church. He was also a post-World War II veteran of the United States Army.
Rev. Conger is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nelda Jane Blount Conger of Tifton; one son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Rhonda Conger of Tifton; one brother and sister-in-law, Curtis and Ila Conger of West Berrien; one sister, Lela Jane Wells of Tifton; two grandchildren and their spouses, Jason and Amie Conger and Jamie and Ashley Conger; and six great-grandchildren, Lexy, Belle, Zoe, Bodhi, London and Kassie.
